Day 9: Mfuwe Primary school and first ever game drive

After waking up to another animal hoohaa, we set off after breakfast for Mfuwe Primary School at about 8.15am. We were all a bit anxious about what to expect since we were only going to be teaching Grade 7 students; a change from the varied class sizes and age groups we'd had for the past few days. For some of us, it turned out to be the best day of teaching so far, as we got the opportunity to really talk to the children. It was so inspiring to hear about their dreams and aspirations, and made a lot of us think about the differences between education in Africa and England. To relax after the busy day, we were treated to a dip in the pool (thanks EOK!!!), followed by savoury mince and pasta. We then left for a sunset game drive, which was absolutely magical. None of us really knew what to expect, but we ended up seeing: elephants, giraffes, waterbucks, impala, hyenas, zebras, leopards (3 sightings), civet (rare, nocturnal animal), a mongoose and lots and lots of hippos! The leaders told us that what we had experienced was really something special (even they were amazed!), and that we were so lucky to have seen SO many animals in just one game drive. Overall, today was incredibly enjoyable for us all, and we are now off to bed ready for our early start tomorrow!
