Day 10: Half way through... A blog from the Leaders

KB has just spotted another traveller using a hair dryer in the bathroom... What's that all about?! We've given up all luxury items: the last packet of minstrels were consumed several days ago, the morning shower is a bit hit and miss (the main issue being the lack of water at c. 5.30am when we all appear out of our tents as the sun rises) and regular cups of tea and coffee are few and far between... Thank goodness for Thomas and Martin behind the bar and their endless supply of chilled diet coke, this seems to have kept the caffeine withdrawal symptoms at bay... We're 10 days into our trip now, half way there! It feels like we've achieved so much already and we are so proud of our team. Since we formed, over 18 months ago, we've been working closely with the girls to plan their programme and to prepare them for the work they would doing in School. So far, we've spent 4 days working with children from preschool - grade 7. We've read many books, sang endless rounds of action songs, spent time getting to know the children in the 4 different schools we've been working in as well as hearing lots about what life is like here and how it compares to home. 

Our truck drives to/from school have provided the girls and us with time to take in the environment we are in, to see some incredible wildlife and to think about the project we are here for. It's an amazing picture when we arrive at the schools... The children in the nearby houses all appear waving with huge grins, whilst our team all wave back enthusiastically out of the truck windows.

We're already seeing changes in the group's abilities and confidence and we can't wait to see what next week holds. It's a pleasure to be experiencing this adventure with your girls and we know you are as proud of them as we are.
