After a quick breakfast, we boarded the Book Bus and set off to our first school about 15 mins away. Very shortly after leaving camp we saw some giraffes, elephants and exotic birds. When we got closer to the school some pupils began to chase the bus which made us even more excited for the day's events.
We were allocated groups of children in our pairs and began reading and doing the activities we had previously prepared. MG and IA were obliterated in Duck Duck Goose by Grade Two students. In ARC and EH's group, they had to improvise a craft as the book was too difficult for the age group and in MW and GM's group the children were in love with the colourful feathers and stuck them all over their lion masks. We were also impressed with the way all the children called us 'Madam'.
After lunch at the campsite, cleaning the truck and moving some tents (to make way for elephants to access the river at night...!) we all went on a village walk. This caused havoc in the village because we were chased by hoards of children who came to say 'hello'. However this made it rather difficult for our tour guide! The children ran along beside us, held our hands and insisted on high-fives.
It was really cool being on the safari truck on the way to and from the village as well. We saw some more elephants on the way home. For dinner we had sausage and mash followed by bananas and custard. We're now beside the river, listening to the hippos and preparing for tomorrow's school visit.
