Day 8: A visit from El

Our morning started off by an early awakening for breakfast at 7am. While some were preparing for breakfast, others were fortunate enough to overlook the view and see a herd of buffalo crossing the river. We arrived at the school early, so we entertained the children by playing some games and singing songs until we were able to start our lessons. It was especially good today as we were able to learn from our experience yesterday and improve, resulting in much better flowing lessons in terms of reading and activities overall. Also, the children were incredibly well behaved and enjoyed our company and made the hours we spent with them much more enjoyable for all of us. On our journey home, we stopped at a place called Tribal Textiles, which was very interesting as we were able to see the process of how the materials were designed and finalised ready to be sold in their shop which some of us bought from. Next to that, there was a few stalls selling small souvenirs which were lovely for us to have a look at, purchase and even have the chance to haggle with the stall owners. After that, SA & HC jumped out of our truck on our next journey back to camp to buy bread for our lunch and we bought all the bread we could, leaving the small girl who was at the stall at the time speechless. After lunch, we decided to get our lesson plans for Thursday and Friday ready, ensuring we could have some free time, plan ahead for Friday because we'll be extremely busy tomorrow night, and be able to have an early night this evening. The planning became tedious with what seemed like endless amounts of cutting out resources and writing out A4 word searches, but we teamed together and made the process a lot quicker, meaning we had the chance to have a quick swim in the pool on site. We had such an amazing experience at dinner, as while we were sitting outside eating, we had a visit from an elephant crossing through our campsite! We had to be very quiet and turn our head torches off and we watched in amazement as this elephant was no further than 5 metres away from us! This was all very exciting for everyone and now the elephant is still wandering our camp site and enjoying the pool.
