Fundraising

As a team, we thought of so many different ways to fundraise for our big trip! It included plenty of table top sales and bake sales all through the year, hours of bag packing during the Christmas and Easter holidays and carol singing on a cold Christmas night! We also collected money for sponsored events and used great fundraising websites like ‘easyfundraising.com’. We have worked and worked through every month to help us get closer to the final costs and the countdown is coming to an end as we are getting nearer and nearer to our trip of a lifetime!!! :D

Team Preparation Events

In preparation for our trip to Africa we have had a number of team days and two weekends away. This was to help all of us get to know each other more and help us bond. At these events we also sorted out the books we wanted to take with us and created lesson plans for them so we knew exactly what we would be doing whilst is Africa. Also we had an HIV talk at one of the weekends to help us learn more about it and to solve any questions we had. These team days have helped us all get to know each other greatly and have prepared us for our wonderful trip upcoming.

Barn Dance

In March we held a barn dance to raise money for our trip. We had a whole day to prepare and we made food for all of the guests. There was a raffle and we had a band and caller (Annie's dad). We all had a good time and joined in the dancing, it was a good way to get to know each other and raise some money.

In March 2013, we were inspired by the success of previous events to hold a Barn Dance for everyone. We worked together all through the day to work on how to keep everyone entertained. We got a special Barn Dance band which got everyone dancing to the spirit! We also organised a raffle and tuck shop for the event. It was such great fun joining in with the dancing but we were so tired when it all finished!!

Brownie Reading Sessions

In January and February, we organised trips to local brownie groups and read stories to them in small groups. We also incorporated relevant activities which we would be using when we read to the schools in Africa. This really helped our confidence and we all gained an understanding of how to control and keep the children focused in the different books!

Valentines Disco

In February 2013, we thought it would be a great opportunity to hold a valentines disco for all the guides and brownies! Everyone took up a job from running stalls, helping out in the kitchen or even encouraging everyone to get dancing in the disco! We held many competitions such as ‘best dressed’ and ‘best limbo dancer’. We found it very successful and we can use our skills from working with the children in Africa!

Sleep out under the stars

To help us fundraise for our trip, we collected sponsors from family and friends to sleep out under the stars for one night. It was very cold but as a team we managed to make ourselves cosy wrapped in blankets and sheltered in cardboard boxes! We were very successful in collecting money which got us one step closer to meeting the cost!

Curry and Quiz Night

In October 2012, we put together a Curry and Quiz Night and advertised it out inviting everyone we knew! We included a raffle, games and opened up our very own tuck shop for the evening! We all had great fun preparing for it and got to know each other very well!
